What is the UniPay Terminal?
The UniPay Terminal is a dedicated handheld payment device for retail, hospitality, and on-the-go merchants. Unlike the Terminal App (which runs on any Android phone you already own), the Terminal is a standalone piece of hardware — nothing to install, no shared-phone concerns, and a professional device that's ready the moment it's powered on.
It runs a hardened, UniPay-only version of the terminal software directly on the device. Merchants pair it to their UniPay account once, then it works independently — taking payments, printing receipts, and sending end-of-day reports to the merchant portal automatically.
For a fixed counter station with a large customer-facing display, see the UniPay POS. The full point-of-sale software that powers cart, catalogue, and staff management is the UniPay POS Software.

Setup & activation
- Unbox and power on. Connect via USB-C to charge fully before first use. The device boots to the UniPay activation screen.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. Select your network from the on-screen Wi-Fi selector and enter the password.
- Enter your activation code. Log in to the merchant portal, go to Settings → Devices → Add device, and copy the 8-digit activation code shown. Enter it on the terminal.
- Device registers automatically. The terminal downloads your merchant configuration — store name, currency, receipt settings — and is ready to take payments within 30 seconds.
- Load receipt paper. Open the paper compartment on the back, insert a 58mm thermal roll, and close until it clicks.
Multiple terminals: You can pair multiple UniPay Terminals to a single UniPay account. Each device appears separately in the portal under Settings → Devices and can have its own label (e.g. "Counter 1", "Counter 2").
Taking payments
- Enter the amount. Type the sale amount on the keypad and press Charge. The terminal shows the amount in UNC and a QR code.
- The customer pays one of three ways:
- Scan — they open UniCash and scan the QR code shown on the terminal.
- Tap — they tap their phone to the NFC ring on the terminal. UniCash opens automatically with the payment ready — there's no need to open the app first.
- Wallet — they double-press their phone's side button, choose their UniCash card, and tap.
- Confirm. The customer confirms with their PIN or device passcode. The terminal shows a green tick the moment the UNC lands in your balance.
- Receipt. The receipt prints automatically and the terminal returns to the amount screen, ready for the next sale.
Receipts
Receipts print automatically when a payment is received. They include:
- Store name and merchant handle
- Date, time, and transaction reference
- Amount in UNC
- Payment method: UniPay
- QR code linking to the digital receipt
Digital receipts are also sent to the customer's email if their UniCash account has an email address on file. Paper receipt printing can be disabled per-device in the merchant portal under Settings → Devices → [device name] → Receipt settings.
End-of-day reports
At end of day, go to Reports on the terminal screen and tap End-of-day report. The report shows:
- Total transactions and total amount collected
- Breakdown by hour
- Any voided or refunded transactions
A copy is printed and simultaneously synced to the merchant portal. The portal keeps reports for 12 months.
Device management
All UniPay Terminals linked to your account are visible in the merchant portal under Settings → Devices. From here you can:
- Rename a device
- View transaction history per device
- Push a configuration update (store name, receipt header, etc.)
- Remotely lock or deactivate a lost or stolen device
- Check firmware version and request an update
Prefer a software terminal? The UniPay Terminal App runs on any Android phone and is available from Google Play. It has the same core payment features as the hardware Terminal — QR, NFC, receipts, and end-of-day reports — without any hardware cost.
